Travel TipsWhen traveling by car, pack a pet first-aid kit that includes assorted bandages, gauze squares, antiseptic cream, and antidiarrheal medicine that is safe for pets, and phone numbers of your veterinarian, a national poison control hotline, and a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital. In addition to a standard identification tag labeled with your name, address and phone number, your pet’s collar should include a travel tag with information on where you are staying in case your pet becomes lost. While away from home, perform daily “health checks” on your pet. In unfamiliar settings your pet’s appetite, energy and disposition may change. Watch for unusual discharges from nose and eyes, excessive scratching or biting of any body part, unusual lumps, limping, inappetence, excessive drinking, or abnormal elimination. Visit a local veterinarian if you notice any physical or behavioral changes. |
